june 2015.

the friday travis was to come home, i received these handsome pictures of travis in his dress uniform.

he earned wings, pretty proud.
even though i didn't want him to go, and i was pretty angry at him a lot of the time he was gone, i still feel really proud of all travis accomplished. he was number 5 in his class, he was chosen to be a leader over 100+ men, and he survived harsh training being away from home for a prolonged time.

it was my friend bonnie's birthday the day travis came home, but his flight didn't get in until 12:30am, so we celebrated her birthday with delicious dinner and treats at nelson's custard.

the three of us spent tons of time together back in the good days living in hawaii.

travis's flight was supposed to get in at 11:30 pm, but was delayed.
remy started getting really grumpy and irritable, then got a high fever, and screamed. a lot.
travis's parents came over to watch remy, who was supposed to be sleeping but instead was crying every ten minutes, while i went to the airport with this wildly inappropriate sign. most of the looks i got while waiting for travis were a little disgusted, but one guy gave me the thumbs up. cool.

travis saw the sign and started laughing and then wrapped me up in a big bear hug. he was exhausted, because the army never lets ya sleep, and i was feeling really weird, like is this really happening? how do i feel about all of this. plus i had a sick kid at home and i was dreading a long night.

indeed, it was a long night, with remy up every hour from 1am - 7am. travis was amazing and got up every time with remy. of course i was awake too, because who can sleep over that howling, but it was really great to have travis home for remy being the sickest he has ever been.

in the middle of the night when travis went in to get him, remy was pretty nervous and asked for mom, but in the light of day, he was really happy to see his dad again.

travis's first day home was not what i had planned.
we were exhausted, but headed over to his parents' for the welcome home breakfast they had put together. the grandparents were there, travis's close friends, siblings. everyone hugged and loved on him and welcomed him home, while i sat there with a screaming kid. i decided to run remy over to the instacare and was feeling pretty bitter.

travis leaves and i stay home taking care of everything, and he gets a big celebration in his honor while i sit at the doctor with a screaming baby and i cry right along with him because i can't get him to stop crying. but then, travis comes in the room, telling me he felt weird being at the party without me and so he told everyone goodbye and came to help me.
relief flooded me. he saw me. he appreciated me. he was there for me. everything was going to be okay between us.

turned out remy had hand and foot, and i pretty much demanded the doctor to prescribe something stronger than tylenol for him, so we spent the next two hours running around in the sweltering heat with a screaming kid trying to find a pharmacy that stocked the cough syrup safe for a toddler to take. it was a terrible day! but i was so thankful i had a fellow parent with me through it all. and being thrown into disaster mode as parents together filled up the gap that might have been weirdness or awkwardness that first day home. travis and i have always been an incredible team, and it was good to be reminded of that. luckily we got some sleep after remy conked out on the cough syrup. poor kid, that was the sickest he's ever been. sores all down his throat.

the next day we took it easy, trying to get remy to drink and eat.
we looked out the window and saw these dudes, which was pretty neat.

that night remy felt well enough to go for a walk.

and play some music.

it was pretty great. we played ingrid michaelson songs together and he sang along with me.

the next night was my dad's 52th birthday, so a dinner celebration was in order.

and travis and i finally made it climbing together! it was fun to show off all my mad skillz.

remy got better after about 5 days, thank goodness, and was back to his usual activities.

it was his first time and he loved it! duh.

and this is the neighbor's car that i want!!!!!!!

so remember the shitty mother's day i had this year? (and last year, ha)
this year, travis said father's day was mine. what a sweetheart. don't worry, i still got him a gift and loved on him too.
this was the breakfast he brought me.

my dad, wearing zane's hair.

travis's parents had the flu at their house, so we hung with my family on father's day. my dad's favorite sunday activity is listening to his kids make music, so make music we did. even rem!

headed out shopping for sara, my new sis in law.  isn't remy the coolest. someone with excellent taste must dress him.

sometimes i like to see what rem would look like as a girl.

rehearsal dinner for reed and sara.
my parents catered and it was DELICIOUS.

remy's cool hat for the wedding. he wore it all of ten minutes that day. sigh.

on our way to the temple. no, not to be inside during the sealing, but to take pictures of after. which is a whole story on its own.

the wedding reception was perfect. of course the family band played some foot thumping tunes.

it took several days to recover from the wedding day.

 june has been wonderful.

xo.
